At Solutions, giving back to our local community is a big part of our ethos. We believe it’s important to try and make a difference, therefore, each year we decide on a ‘charity of the year’ to support. Annually this is put out to a vote within Solutions and the majority rules.
Previous charities have included Macmillan, Alzheimer’s Society, Teenage Cancer Trust and The Little Princess Trust. For 2019 our charity was Mind, a fantastic organisation supporting those with mental health problems.
Mind provide advice and support to empower anyone experiencing mental health problems across England and Wales and support over 513,000 people.
This charity is particularly close to our hearts as the tech industry is well known for being male dominated, and although it is both men and women that experience mental health problems, it has recently been highly documented that men are least likely to seek help.
Every year 1 in 4 people experience an issue with their mental health, yet only 25% of those people receive support. With this staggering statistic we felt an urgency to help by raising both money and awareness. Our fundraising efforts have come in many different forms: we have taken part in a virtual coast-to-coast bike ride, bake sales, regular dress down days, and the Great Notts Bike Ride. We are overjoyed to finally announce that we have raised over £2,500 for this amazing charity.
We want to take this opportunity to thank everyone that has contributed, raising money and awareness for charities is so important to us at Solutions; we hope that our fundraising efforts can help Mind continue their truly inspiring work as they push for better mental health awareness and support for those struggling.
